Fire Department
Message from Fire Chief Litchford
Welcome to the official website of the South Milwaukee Fire Department. Operating out of one centrally-located station, we consider ourselves an all-hazard, all-risk, full-service department that provides ALS/BLS transport capabilities, fire suppression, open water and confined space rescue, a full-range of fire prevention activities and fire inspection services. Please take a moment to look around our site as we consider it a work-in-progress in our attempt to provide an informational One-Stop-Shop. Please do not hesitate to contact us with questions you may have. After all... we are here to serve the community.
Our Mission
The Mission of the South Milwaukee Fire Department is to protect lives and property from the adverse effects of fires, sudden medical emergencies, and exposure to hazardous conditions. This commitment is achieved by developing, promoting, and maintaining effective fire suppression, and emergency medical care. We will continue to provide these quality services, through education and training, to all who live, work, visit or invest here.
Emergencies
Remember, the South Milwaukee Fire Department is staffed 24 hours a day. Use 911 to request our service if you are experiencing a fire or medical emergency!
Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detectors
We want you and your family to be safe from the threat of fire in your home. Please place and maintain a working smoke detector on every level of your home and also near sleeping areas. Carbon monoxide detectors are also required in most one and two family dwellings, regardless of the buildings age. Alarms must be installed in the basement and on each floor. For more information on these requirements, please contact the Fire Department at 414-768-8191.
Please protect your family! Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are inexpensive life insurance!
